Open Source Consulting

Bona fide open source and web standard cloud services save time and money, put your message on equal footing with the best of the Web.

All started by one or two individuals.  All depended upon, continue to depend upon, open source tools to fuel explosive growth with simplified information management.  The base tools used to build these online empires are freely available to those who believe in the possibilities.

Lakedata.net, a decade of experience with the building blocks of open source.

LINUX  -- Check.  Continuous use of various flavors.  Started with desktop, SUSE, Redhat, KDE/Gnome.  Now strictly server implementations, primarily CentOS.

APACHE  -- Check.  A decade of continuous joyful use.  The initial exposure was a revelation.  All things so difficult in proprietary (IIS) formats became suddenly so simple out in the open.  Apache rocks.  Small wonder that Apache  serves well over half of all web content.

MySQL  -- Check.  Same as Apache but for databases.  SQLite rocks too.

PHP  -- Check.  PHP proves iIt is not where you start, it is where you are today.  Granted, PHP was nothing more than a quick simple way of managing personal home pages in the beginning.  Then the network effect, max eyeballs, user experience, broad engagement, wild enthusiasm built upon the solid code base to transform PHP and keep it at the top of the heap of 3gl programming languages.

Building on top of these, timeless Web standards:

phpMyAdmin

MediaWiki

Additional high level implementations too numerous to count.  SugarCRM, vTigerCRM, eZ Publish of course, the list goes on.  Many tried, many failed, many continue succesful.

Working Below

Lakedata.net works daily with low level open source implementations too numerous to count.

Curl, wget, svn, rsync, etc, etc.  Any one of these can save man years of time for a given situation.

Onsite curl example. .
